Design Verification

Stemar Engineering execute design calculations for a wide range of industrial and offshore structures. Our reports are used in technical construction files or sent to notified bodies (NoBo's) for verification. We make design calculations for our own as well as for third party designs.

The main purpose of our calculation is always :

  • Safe construction
  • Managing risks
  • Prevention of unexpected failure
  • Optimization

Our stress calculation are in accordance with the most recent codes and standards and we use the latest software.

Green field

In many cases, the strength calculations, are the basis for the "sizing" of new constructions. In an early design stage the required dimensions are determined in order to guarantee a safe and functional construction throughout its lifetime.

Fit-for-Service

Stemar Engineering are also invited frequently to assess the current state of existing installations. For all normative parts of the structure the minimum requirements are formulated. The reports of Stemar Engineering form the basis for the Risk Based Inspection Plans.

Troubleshooting

Repeated failure of certain components in a system may cause major expenses. With advanced engineering calculations Stemar analyze the situation and make an improvement proposal.

Our Calculation Software

Algor FEMPROFor this elaborate finite element package, we have the most comprehensive license. The most common computing capabilities of this package are:
  • Linear calculations
  • Stability Calculations (Eurler)
  • Own Frequency Calculations
  • Non-linear calculation incl. material yield
  • Contact between two bodies e.g. pin-hole connections
  • Thermal flux and thermal stress calculations
  • CFD (fluid flow calculations)
Algor PipePak

With Pipepak pipe stress calculations can be made to determine any layout-of-movement of a piping system. For Small diameter / length ratio's the stresses are automatically verified according to:

  • ASME B31.1 or B31.3
  • BS 806
  • EN 13480
Robot Structural Analysis
Robot Structural Analysis Autodesk is a finite element package especially focussed on 3D-framework structures. The package automatically checks the steel sections in accordance with the requirements of NEN 6770/1, AISC and Eurocode 3.
TechnosoftFor the verification of simple steel beams and trusses, we use Technosoft. With this program connection details are also verified.
PV ElitePV Elite is used for verification of pressure vessels and tanks in accordance with the requirements of ASME VIII Div.1/2, PD 5500 and EN 13445. The package uses the traditional formula approaches. For non-standard shapes an FEA model is created with FEMPRO.
ScadesScades also used for the verification of pressure vessels and tanks. However, this package verifies according to the Dutch Rules for unfired pressure vessels (RToD) of Stoomwezen.
Working Model 2D
For easy determination of impact and acceleration forces, we use Working Model 2D. Due to the extensive capabilities of Algor FEMPRO this program is not often used anymore.
